Aus Made

Australian Grown & Made

For over 140 years, Hyne Timber has supplied the Australian construction industry. We operate advanced sawmills in Tuan (QLD) and Tumbarumba (NSW), plus Australia’s largest GLT plant in Maryborough (QLD), delivering timber built for Australian conditions.

We make the good stuff from pine and Australian hardwoods, all sustainably grown and farmed right here in Australia. In fact, our mills are all strategically positioned to be close to resource-rich and renewable plantations, across Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

Our milling process

Our T2 Blue, T2 Red, and T3 Green framing is machine graded for an accurate strength rating.
This process measures the bending stiffness of every board, ensuring consistency.
We constantly scan logs and boards for precision, using advanced technology that has evolved from 3D shape scanning to include:
•    X-Ray
•    Acoustic graders
•    Full vision scanning: Shape & Defect Identification
•    Precision Geometric Log Rotation (PGLR)

Our framing products

T2 Blue is a termite treated timber suitable for indoor, above ground use south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Hyne Timber’s T2 Blue is a guaranteed performer, with zero reported failures over more than 350,000 builds.

Hyne Timber’s T2 Red is designed to protect against Giant Northern Termites (Mastotermes darwiniensis). It’s ideal for internal, above-ground use across mainland Australia, including north of the Tropic of Capricorn.

Our T3 Green products can be used throughout Australia and are resistant against termite attack and fungal decay (rot). Its treatment penetrates both sapwood and heartwood for superior protection, meeting or exceeding the Australian Standards.

Unlike other low odour H3 treated products, T3 Green has no VOC emissions, making it safe for indoor use and ideal for wet or humid areas like kitchens, laundries, and bathrooms.

Tougher than termites

Research from CSIRO shows that 80% of all Australian homes are within 25 metres of an active termite nest.

The National Construction Code (NCC AS3660) provides two options for resisting termite attack:

1. Termite resistant materials (as primary building elements)
2. Termite barrier systems

By building with Hyne T2 Blue, the home's structure is protected from termites without needing a termite barrier system. In fact, we’ve supplied Australia with enough T2 Blue to build over 350,000 free standing homes, with zero failures to date.

Our GLT products

LGL (Laminated Glued Lumber) is a solid-wood alternative to LVL. The renowned natural strength of timber is enhanced with our glue laminating process, ensuring it is ideal for long span and high load applications.

Beam 15 is Hyne’s latest innovation in GLT; a premium alternative to GL17 beams, LVL or steel. Ideal for lintels over large window, door openings, garage openings or roof beams where spans over large spaces are dictated by design.

Made from sustainably managed Australian hardwoods, Beam 21 asserts itself in a crowd with its uniquely Australian looks combined with pure brawn.

Appearance grade A Beam 21 is made of Spotted Gum, which is a naturally bushfire resistant timber up to and including BAL-29 (in accordance with AS3959-2009), making it the ultimate choice in bushfire prone areas.

LGL vs LVL

LGL is an acronym for ‘Laminated Glued Lumber’ — a solid-wood outdoor alternative to LVL beams. Straight and stable in indoor and outdoor environments, LGL is also ideal in applications where nail-holding strength is an absolute priority. Unlike some LVL products, LGL doesn't delaminate making it a consistent performer in the Australian construction industry.

Certifiably Great

The S-Mark means Hyne GLT products meet Australian standards and have been independently audited and tested. All our Glulam products (LGL, Beam 15, and Beam 21) are S-Mark certified. This certification covers not just lab testing but also the full manufacturing process and glue bond integrity.

T2 Blue, T2 Red, and T3 Green are CodeMark certified to meet NCC requirements. Our products go through regular third-party audits and testing to ensure they perform on-site. We back them with a 25-year guarantee.

Sustainability

As far back as 1889, through his role as a Queensland Member of Parliament, our founder R.M. Hyne advocated for the replanting of forests and initiated the creation of Queensland's first Department of Forestry. His legacy remains, and today our sustainability agenda is stronger than ever.
